Secularism Killing Europe?

Pope Benedict XVI implied that secularism is ruining Europe, and that it should return to its Christian heritage.

I attended an Ayn Rand Institute lecture some months back on religion in America. That group is decidedly atheistic. But interestingly it wholeheartedly rejects European secularism. Europe's problem is that instead of replacing religion with some other commitment, they replace it with nothing, or with hedonism. That's left them open to Islam, or in the alternative to some pitiful, valueless existence. ARI folks seem to agree that even Americans' religiosity is better than the empty-headed European approach.
